Indexes
These are some good periodical indexes. Some of them even make available full text of articles — either for free or a fee. However, some of the best periodical indexes are available through your library. They probably have some with free full text, and they probably offer it via their Web page. You don't even need to leave
the house; you just need a library card. If you live in the U.S., see my U.S. Libraries page to find your nearest library. Otherwise, use one of my other library directories

- British Library Direct - Combines an index with document delivery (for a fee) from one of the largest libraries in the world (one with a long history of interlibrary loan/document delivery service)
- Free Full Text.com -

- High Beam - Millions of
articles from journals and reference books, some for a fee

- HighWire Press -
Full-text journals in the sciences and social sciences
- Infotrieve ArticleFinder - Free searching, articles available for a fee
- IngentaConnect - Searching is free, but they charge a fee for the articles. When browsing for a particular periodical title, be sure to check both those with articles available online and those with articles available by fax. The original Internet periodical index (formely Uncover)
- JournalTOCs - Tables of contents for over 10,000 scholarly journals
- Magportal - Free index pointing to free full text articles
- Special Issues - Special issues of magazines, mostly trade publications (Compiled by Hill Reference Library, a business library in St. Paul, Minn.)

- CORE (COnnecting REpositories) - "Aggregating the world's open access research papers," this is an index of millions of documents from thousands of journals and repositories
- Dissemin - "Detects papers behind pay-walls and invites their authors to upload them in one click to an open repository"
- Fatcat - Indexes journal articles and includes links to open access copies where available
- Google Scholar
- JURN - "Millions of free academic articles, chapters and theses"; searches open access journals and institutional repositories
- Semantic Scholar
- Yahoo Search
Subscriptions - Search specialized sources that require a
subscription. You will still need a subscription to access the full
text, however
